Our goal is to break the negative poverty cycle created by lack of access to modern energy services. By empowering households with access to affordable and reliable energy products, we are not just giving them electricity, we are helping them enter a positive cycle where they can increase savings, increase productivity ,and improve their health.
BACKGROUND: In Cambodia alone, 10 million people (80% of population) are off the national electric grid. Despite large investments in large hydro projects, most rural households will not be connected for decades. Most households use dangerous and inefficient kerosene lighting, while others rely on inefficient car batteries.
PROBLEM: The lack appropriate energy resources means higher costs, more time required to gather fuel, and increased pollution and other health risks. This reduces profit and time available for economic activities;limiting the disposable income available to buy improved energy products and services. This vicious cycle perpetuates until households are given access to modern and appropriate sources of energy.
SOLUTION: Access to efficient energy services can dramatically improve people’s lives. Modern energy services can break the vicious cycle and empower households to enter a virtuous cycle, where improved energy sources free up time and money for other profitable activities. Lighting is an important first step because it provides high economic, social and environmental benefits at a low cost. By helping households get to this first step, we can empower them to enter a prosperous cycle of better access to energy increasing time for economic activity, allowing for larger disposable income.
PRODUCTS & SEVICES: We offers products that have been designed and manufactured with rural poor households in mind. These products have been successfully implemented in Africa, India, Central America, and the Pacific Islands. They recently won 1st Prize in three out of the four categories, at the Lighting Africa Competition. The products range from a simple desk lamp to household and classroom lighting Africa Competition. The products range from a simple desk lamp to household and classroom lighting kits. The systems can also be tailored to any specific need and size. As households and communities climb up the energy ladder, the products and services adjust to the changing needs, up to micro-grids that can power entire villages and communities in a reliable and sustainable way.
